Topic: alternating meeting time

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 16:28):

So one of the things we established at the kickoff meeting was that we would try to hold a second meeting, every other week, at a time that works better for EU time zone

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 16:29):

so I'm thinking that maybe @davidtwco could create a Doodle (or some other calendar event selection service) that lists the times that would work for them, and then we'd all add in our own constraints into that system

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 16:29):

(I probably should have pinged @davidtwco about this last week, <<sigh>>)

view this post on Zulip davidtwco (Aug 10 2020 at 17:00):

I can basically be available for any meeting that ends before 23:00 UTC.

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:06):

can you also provide the starting point ?

view this post on Zulip davidtwco (Aug 10 2020 at 17:07):

10am UTC? I can move everything else in my day around to suit really.

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:07):

(@davidtwco ^)

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:07):

okay thanks!

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:07):

I'll make a doodle for that time range and send it around

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 17:22):

What do we do about querying @njn's availability? If I remember correctly, they are in vacation right now, but also were part of the group that would benefit from a different schedule. I think we should try to get their input on this survey, because it is important to them. :)

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 17:22):

I don't know how to contact them if they turned off Zulip's notifications for this week and the next one

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 17:24):

An alternative could be pick a temporary time for this week's meeting, and after Nick's back we ask them about their availability and re-schedule the "alternate meetings" if it seems positive :)

view this post on Zulip davidtwco (Aug 10 2020 at 17:38):

Additionally, if a meeting were on a Friday then I could stick around later because there’s nothing I need to get up early for.

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:54):

my assumption has been that we would not worry too much about @njn 's availability for the alternate timed meetings

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 17:55):

@njn themself said that they were used to being left out of all of the usual meetings due to time zone issues, and so being instead accommodated for half of the meetings was an improvement.

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 18:03):

XD, I remember now, poor Nick

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 18:04):

I would still try to ask them, even after their vacation if we can't contact them rn

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 10 2020 at 18:04):

(The other question is whether trying to hold a meeting this week is worth while.)

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 10 2020 at 18:09):

(Good question. I've been idle a bit and doing lots of housework. Uni has not answered yet because August is hard on administrative people.
Most incr-comp work I've done is asking around stuff to Wesley and the others, here in the Zulip. I should not have much to bring apart from a summary of the discussions... but again, they haven't been that long nor that many. It would be a short report.)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 10 2020 at 18:11):

another question I have, which I didn't ask in our previous meeting is ... isn't there any time where we all can make to it?

view this post on Zulip Wesley Wiser (Aug 10 2020 at 18:11):

It might be worth having a meeting to discuss some meta issues. How should we be tracking work/ideas? What's the process for spinning up a project group? Others?

I'm wondering if there is some kind of overlapping time between @davidtwco and @njn

view this post on Zulip Wesley Wiser (Aug 10 2020 at 18:11):

njn and davidtwco are 13 hours apart so it seems unlikely.

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 10 2020 at 18:13):

yeah, I was just wondering if it may also make sense to do a doodle about that, maybe the meeting in the morning for one of them and night for the other may work?

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 10 2020 at 18:14):

anyway, maybe alternating is the best because I won't be able to make it at night neither

view this post on Zulip njn (Aug 10 2020 at 20:50):

Hi! Whatever time you choose for the Europe-friendly meeting I can pretty much guarantee I won't be able to make it, so you can ignore me for setting the time of that meeting.

view this post on Zulip njn (Aug 10 2020 at 20:50):

Also, although I'm on PTO I'm just doing stuff at home because of Covid. I don't have Zulip open but I get email notifications when someone mentions me, so if you have an easy question I can answer.

view this post on Zulip njn (Aug 10 2020 at 20:51):

Finally, I use he/him pronouns but they/them is fine too.

view this post on Zulip njn (Aug 10 2020 at 20:51):

Thanks for thinking of me :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 10 2020 at 21:20):

ok, so it seems like we need to split in 2 meetings then and I'd be able to join the EU friendly only because the AU friendly ones are too late for me

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 13 2020 at 16:06):

just wanted to post in here: Much like I said in today's T-compiler meeting: my current plan is to continue on with my T-compiler work; in the case of this WG, that means continuing to help with organizational. stuff, and (hopefully) looking into the projects we discussed earlier.

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 13 2020 at 16:06):

however I may also be more constrained now. in terms of what meeting time I can use.

(I often use they/them, as ungendered pronouns, for everyone that I can, because 1. its less mental overhead for me. and 2. its how I'd prefer society at large to operate. Perhaps that represents a level of insensitivity on my part to the plight of trans-gender folk who seek to be referred to via their preferred indicated gender, but for now its what I'm doing for my own sake.)

view this post on Zulip pnkfelix (Aug 13 2020 at 16:10):

anyway that's a long-winded way. of me saying that my use of "they/them" is not meant to imply anything about the referent

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 13 2020 at 17:07):

I do the same as (Felix Klock) (did I write Klock correctly? Anywho), in the sense that I use they/them pronouns for other people. I try to use their indicated pronouns once I know which ones they prefer that I use. I say I try, because my memory is good, but not that great - specially in these times, my mind is working on Energy Saving mode and so certain book keeping activities that I like to do sometimes don't get fully done. Pardon me, everyone, if I forget your pronouns (I'll use they/them if I do), I swear I try

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 13 2020 at 17:08):

For myself I prefer he/him they/them

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 13 2020 at 17:08):

:)

view this post on Zulip Félix Fischer (Aug 13 2020 at 17:09):

(Also, @pnkfelix I completely understand where you come from)

view this post on Zulip njn (Aug 18 2020 at 04:25):

I find he/him easier than they/them, so I was assuming others felt the same way and was trying to make things easier. But if others find they/them easier, that's fine too :)

ping @Wesley Wiser

view this post on Zulip Wesley Wiser (Aug 26 2020 at 00:36):

So, restarting this discussion, I see @davidtwco is available between 10:00 and 23:00 UTC.

I personally would prefer if the meeting was between 10:00 and 13:00 UTC as it would be easy for me to attend then. After that point, it would be much more difficult for me to attend (until 21:00 UTC).

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20200826T100000&p1=263&p2=1440

@pnkfelix and @Santiago Pastorino does 10:00 UTC work for you? Or would some time between 10:00 and 13:00 UTC work for you?

view this post on Zulip Wesley Wiser (Aug 26 2020 at 00:37):

@Aman Arora and @Félix Fischer do you have opinions?

somewhere after 10:00 works better for me, but my avaiability would be lower after 14th September (I'm starting an internship), so please priortise others preferences over mine.

My availability before 12 UTC is extremely low. I struggle with the early hours of EST, so if at all possible I'd much rather have it later during the 10-13 period.

OTOH, 21:00 UTC is perfect for me xD

Still, I already have no problems getting into the 8pm EST meetings, so I have no qualms with the alternate meeting happening at a time where I can't really attend them :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 26 2020 at 02:29):

from 11 to 13 utc works for me, mainly more towards 13 is better, like at 12 or 11

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Aug 26 2020 at 02:29):

at 10 is more complicated here

Looks like 12:00 UTC has quite a bit of support

Given the unfortunate news in #t-compiler/wg-incr-comp > Bowing out - could this be the regular meeting time?

Yeah, we talked a bit about that last night and so this will probably become the new meeting time.

If someone else is willing to run the meeting, then it should work well. (I am willing to prepare the agenda ahead of time.)

or help prepare the agenda, which I think will work better in practice, at least initially

I'm not sure if we ended deciding a time for the meeting

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Sep 08 2020 at 19:23):

the calendar shows that the meeting will happen in 4.5hs

I definitely can't attend tonight

this  seems important

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Sep 08 2020 at 19:33):

we should commit to the new time and define someone that runs the meeting

I'll be running the next couple at least :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Sep 08 2020 at 19:59):

I could help with that at some point I guess, but for now I'd need to have a better picture of what are we going after
