Is there a way to mark topics "resolved"?
I could mute it, but what I really want is a way to indicate to anyone just joining the stream that this topic is only of historical value at this point
I think we should try to be more disciplined about properly using threads in zulip
maybe you could change the title of the thread to indicate that ?
I haven't used Zulip prior to joining this stream; do you have any suggestions for what that "discipline" would comprise?
I generally feel that threads are under-utilized in Slack, so my preference is to err on the side of over-use here, then gracefully "expire" them somehow...I just don't see how that last step would work here (possibly because I lack sufficient admin permissions for the stream)
I do not see a way for me to change the topic title, but maybe Niko can
Even without the ability to archive topics, it might be good to pin some of them
I don't actually know if Zulip supports either feature
So what I try to do is, everytime something is mentioned that's a different topic than what the current thread has, branch of a new thread (you can also move comments from a thread to a new one, so that can be cleaned up a bit afterwards as well)
This does not make sense for all threads, e.g., a"meeting" thread contains a meeting
To get a feeling maybe just hang out a bit in the t-compiler or other streams
I'll do that!
I.e. I'll hang out in those streams
Huh, seems like nothing really gets archived anywhere, e.g. stream:t-compiler topic:#52531-error-pattern-in-ui-tests
I guess you can pin streams but not topics
....and apparently you can only rename "blocks" at a time. Hm. I need to spend more time getting acquainted with Zulip.
I tend to think of zulip topics as vaguely analogous to email subject lines
but maybe I'm showing my age :P
I genuinely miss using email as the primary form of async communication
I really like the way Zulip works like email but without the perception of "emails need to be longer".
Chat with subjects and threads is kinda what I want most of the time.
Zulip is the first service I've used that genuinely makes me think I don't need email.
