You can mute topics in Zulip

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 16:48):

As well as adding alert words

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 16:48):

As if I needed more notifications

hehe I've been doing that for a while to avoid drowning in notifications :grimacing:

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:19):

I mute streams

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:19):

but I didn't realize you could mute topics

view this post on Zulip Sunjay Varma (Oct 24 2019 at 17:21):

Ohh yeah I do that too. I use the little "eye" icon beside the topic name. It's pretty dim to be honest, hard to find

@nikomatsakis in my mind you were like a Zulip god but I've already realized during RBR that that's not true :joy:

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:32):

@Santiago Pastorino to be fair, the key G that you suggested -- I usually use the windows End key for that

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 17:32):

:)

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:32):

that said, I also recently discovered : for adding emoji

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:32):

and e for editing

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

I mean I sort of knew those keys were there

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

but I've been enjoying using them a lot more :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

i also for contextual menus

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

and left arrow for "edit most recent message"

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

remember w :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

and left arrow for "edit most recent message"

that one is good too

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

tbh left arrow vs e is kind of annoying

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:33):

I should probably just always use e

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 17:34):

another one I use frequently is / so I can just quickly jump into a topic or something by searching

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:34):

soon we'll get to emacs level of complexity. I realized the other day that I regularly type things like C-u C-x 4 M-. and I was "oh dear god how many neurons are wasted on this"

view this post on Zulip nikomatsakis (Oct 24 2019 at 17:35):

(for the record, that lets you type in a symbol name and pops open a fresh window that shows you where it is defined)

btw https://zulipchat.com/help/ seems to be good for all this stuff :)

view this post on Zulip Santiago Pastorino (Oct 24 2019 at 18:42):

I've learned there that you can mention people without alerting them

view this post on Zulip RalfJ (Nov 03 2019 at 12:25):

but I didn't realize you could mute topics

unfortunately you cannot unmute a topic in a muted stream. that would be super useful.

view this post on Zulip RalfJ (Nov 03 2019 at 12:25):

like, #t-compiler has way too much stuff but sometimes there's one topic that I am involved in.

view this post on Zulip RalfJ (Nov 03 2019 at 12:26):

so everyone please remember to @-mention people when responding^^
