What’s the main difference between the two? Is the whole community moving to zulip?

The whole community isn't. More and more of the developers are, but nobody has especially wanted to invite the immense arguments that would break out if we tried to say "couldn't we all use just one chat service".

There's other parts that are on matrix. I'm not sure the whole community has to be in one place, especially as it grows bigger and bigger.

@Amir Arafat The biggest difference to me seems to be that the "topics" here make it much easier to respond to a previous conversation, and thus is better for asynchronous communication, whereas Discord is more like a water cooler, better for nearly-synchronous communication but difficult if there are multiple conversations happening at once.

So I expect we'll continue to have both, but it seems like durable conversations are moving here whereas things like helping beginners who show up stays on Discord.

I don't get the "water cooler" reference here...

in offices, the water cooler is where people would have unplanned meets, talking about this and that

and don't forget the coffee/smoke breaks where you can go out and talk bad about the company xD

very much this. Discord is impossible to follow for me. Of course that depends on the way you interact with this kind of chat systems but here it's very easy to find a streams, check the topics and go and just check the things you're involved or interested and avoid the rest.
