From afar, I can't see a lot but I think I agree on a P-critical. The sample provided does not look "strange".

I also read this comment from the PR but I don't understand how or if it's related to this issue

I think the comment is saying that the compiler is more restrictive after this PR and won't make arbitrary choices on your behalf. It looks like it fixed or partially fixed two long-standing issues.
