I also agree with you here. I wonder what is the implications of this issue: if it has more to do with serde or having a derive inside an impl block.

Also, like mentioned here the bisect is not yet totally clear, seems to go way back in time (so I could also think: this is how it should work, we should just put a safeguard with a proper error message)
