Topic: Don't build tools by default with `x.py b… compiler-team#351

triagebot (Aug 26 2020 at 20:52, on Zulip):

A new proposal has been announced: Don't build tools by default with x.py build #351. It will be announced at the next meeting to try and draw attention to it, but usually MCPs are not discussed during triage meetings. If you think this would benefit from discussion amongst the team, consider proposing a design meeting.

@T-compiler: Proposal #351 has been seconded, and will be approved in 10 days if no objections are raised.

Jonas Schievink (Aug 26 2020 at 20:54, on Zulip):

yes, I was wondering why this suddenly took so long

Joshua Nelson (Aug 26 2020 at 20:55, on Zulip):

I meant to put it in the original MCP but forgot to add it

Joshua Nelson (Aug 26 2020 at 20:55, on Zulip):

and by the time I thought of it it had already been accepted

Joshua Nelson (Aug 26 2020 at 20:55, on Zulip):

will try to implement it this weekend

Joshua Nelson (Sep 09 2020 at 04:00, on Zulip):

Hmm ... what should the new way to build all tools be?

Joshua Nelson (Sep 09 2020 at 04:00, on Zulip):

x.py build src/tools/* works I guess

Joshua Nelson (Sep 09 2020 at 04:01, on Zulip):

maybe I should implement https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/76380 before this

cuviper (Sep 09 2020 at 05:37, on Zulip):

I don't want to build every tool, like a glob implies, just the ones I enabled in my configuration.

simulacrum (Sep 09 2020 at 11:59, on Zulip):

It should be easy to add an alias like "src/tools" or "tools" which builds the ones enabled in config

triagebot (Sep 09 2020 at 20:34, on Zulip):

This proposal has been accepted: #351.

Joshua Nelson (Sep 18 2020 at 16:32, on Zulip):

current status: I still plan to implement this, but I'm holding off until x.py gets a changelog so it's less disruptive: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/76617

Joshua Nelson (Oct 03 2020 at 14:21, on Zulip):

what should I do here? https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/77489#issuecomment-703110836 this is really frustrating

Tshepang Lekhonkhobe (Oct 03 2020 at 18:46, on Zulip):

maybe take a break @Joshua Nelson... your activity is very high, and I wonder how you maintain so much energy
