Topic: Debuggable Macro Expansions compiler-team#386

triagebot (Nov 17 2020 at 07:33, on Zulip):

A new proposal has been announced: Debuggable Macro Expansions #386. It will be announced at the next meeting to try and draw attention to it, but usually MCPs are not discussed during triage meetings. If you think this would benefit from discussion amongst the team, consider proposing a design meeting.

What about pretending that macro invocations are inlined function calls in the dwarf debuginfo?

tmandry (Nov 17 2020 at 22:45, on Zulip):

I like that idea. How would it apply with recursive macros?

tmandry (Nov 17 2020 at 22:46, on Zulip):

I think we can pretend every macro definition is its own function which gets inlined in many places

tmandry (Nov 17 2020 at 22:46, on Zulip):

and treat any expansion of that macro as the same "function"
