Topic: Rust Lang GitHub Permission Changes

Email Gateway (Feb 16 2020 at 09:32, on Zulip):

From: Erin Power <>
Hello Rust contributor,

My name is Erin, I am contacting you on behalf of the Governance WG for the Rust project. We are contacting you because you're a member of a legacy GitHub Team on rust-lang, and not a current member of any other team. We're trying to transition managing access and permissions to rust-lang/team. Eventually we intend to remove the legacy teams which could result in you losing write permissions on some repos in the rust-lang org. If you believe you still you need access please get in contact with us, by either replying to this email, or on Zulip.

Thank you for your time,

Erin (XAMPPRocky)

@XAMPPRocky , I don't need full write permissions to the repo, but does github allow fine-grained permissions that would still allow me to close issues on rust-lang/rust? I do use that ability with some regularity

XAMPPRocky (Feb 16 2020 at 17:57, on Zulip):

@bstrie Yes! There is the triage working group which has triage access which allows you to close issues.

bstrie (Feb 16 2020 at 18:05, on Zulip):

shall I try to convince them to let me join the team in order to receive that permission explicitly? I see they have a discord channel

XAMPPRocky (Feb 16 2020 at 18:21, on Zulip):

@bstrie Yeah, you’ve kind of already have been doing that work. I would ping @DPC (wg lead) and @simulacrum (team lead) about your situation, I don’t think anyone will have a problem.

DPC (Feb 16 2020 at 18:21, on Zulip):

Ye we don't have a problem xD

simulacrum (Feb 16 2020 at 18:27, on Zulip):

Yes, wg-triage is the place for those permissions today.

simulacrum (Feb 16 2020 at 18:27, on Zulip):

Please file a PR to the team repo.

bstrie (Feb 19 2020 at 15:10, on Zulip):

@simulacrum @DPC by "file a PR to the team repo", I assume this is what was meant?

DPC (Feb 19 2020 at 15:10, on Zulip):

simulacrum (Feb 19 2020 at 15:26, on Zulip):

@bstrie If you want to edit the commit to associate with GH please do so, otherwise let me know and I can merge

Nell Shamrell-Harrington (Mar 24 2020 at 22:10, on Zulip):

I've had a couple of comments on my GitHub Permission changes RFCs around also defining moderator permissions, etc. on it. Could someone give me a bit more context about what this might mean?

Nell Shamrell-Harrington (Mar 24 2020 at 22:10, on Zulip):

Are they talking about moderating comments on GitHub? Or in Discord/Zulip/etc?

Nell Shamrell-Harrington (Mar 24 2020 at 22:12, on Zulip):

I personally think it's out of the scope of this RFC, but want to make sure I understand the context
