Santiago Pastorino (Dec 02 2019 at 17:38, on Zulip):

:+1:

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:23, on Zulip):

So @XAMPPRocky, @Santiago Pastorino, and @Jasun Carr -- is there any reason not to open the survey today? Are all the links in https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/470 correct?

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

the only reason I can see is timing -- there's a lot of "Rust" on HN right now, I imagine @Steve Klabnik might have input (I also pinged him on Discord...)

XAMPPRocky (Dec 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

The only reason to my knowledge is some of the translations might have "FIXME" and not have the date that it ends at the top. Though whether that should be blocking is up to you.

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

ah, on discord he says "better to wait until tomorrow"

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

maybe we can use that time to dot every i, cross every t?

XAMPPRocky (Dec 02 2019 at 20:26, on Zulip):

I believe @Florian Gilcher mentioned on the PR that we should merge the blog post today. Those changes I mentioned can be done in real time, since whenever the translation is updated it will be that.

Florian Gilcher (Dec 02 2019 at 20:26, on Zulip):

We can, we don't have to.

XAMPPRocky (Dec 02 2019 at 20:26, on Zulip):

People are already filling it out.

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:26, on Zulip):

In general folks in #core on Discord are +1 to waiting a day

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

that's ok :)

Florian Gilcher (Dec 02 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

Yeah, every link that is public will be clicked :/

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

I mean it doesn't hurt

nikomatsakis (Dec 02 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

let's shoot for tomorrow at ~8am or 9am PST

XAMPPRocky (Dec 02 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

Oh I know, I'm just saying that it's not like it's a secret anymore regardless.

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 02 2019 at 21:17, on Zulip):

So XAMPPRocky, Santiago Pastorino, and Jasun Carr -- is there any reason not to open the survey today? Are all the links in https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/470 correct?

some translations are already with Dec 16th in it, not all

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 02 2019 at 21:17, on Zulip):

gonna check again now and update the document

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 15:57, on Zulip):

I see no reason not to get in in the field (and sorry for not replying yesterday) - and hooray for folks already filling it out!

nikomatsakis (Dec 03 2019 at 17:22, on Zulip):

@XAMPPRocky merged blog post :)

nikomatsakis (Dec 03 2019 at 17:23, on Zulip):

also @Steve Klabnik

nikomatsakis (Dec 03 2019 at 17:23, on Zulip):

though it's not visible yet

apiraino (Dec 03 2019 at 17:40, on Zulip):

awesome! thank you everyone for doing this

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 17:51, on Zulip):

Just say some feedback on Reddit re: the "Rank your top 5 languages question."

"There is a bug in the question about language ranking, where you cannot unselect a language once selected, but you cannot continue if you select more than one per column. If you accidentally select more than 5 languages, you cannot complete the form."

Added a note in the English version: (Please only select 1 per column - Goggle Forms will not allow you to unselect an option once clicked.)

Hopefully it doesn't create too many issues. (I don't think it will)

simulacrum (Dec 03 2019 at 17:52, on Zulip):

can we stop error-checking and just allow more than 5 selections or something?

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 17:55, on Zulip):

We can - Though that's going to make analysis a bit odd - will probably have to discard some answers - and remember this is a question that we're piloting this year, so some adjustment down the road is probable. Other's thoughts?

Luiz Irber (Dec 03 2019 at 17:56, on Zulip):

I just tried the Portuguese survey, and it is closed. I helped with translation and have access to it. Can I open it? cc @Santiago Pastorino

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 17:58, on Zulip):

yeah of course, I thought translated surveys were all open

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 17:58, on Zulip):

@Luiz Irber Yes, please do (if it's ready to go)

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 17:58, on Zulip):

gonna check that all the translated surveys are open just in case ... now that you mention this

Luiz Irber (Dec 03 2019 at 18:01, on Zulip):

Oh, the announcement post is pointing to the 2018 survey (last year)
This is the correct link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScIZI8qtS1BMBaOIIirwp_NngKWgr_GTnow6Fp32M8_IySaPw/viewform

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:05, on Zulip):

yeah I was going to say exactly that

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:05, on Zulip):

@Luiz Irber can you open a PR about this?

Luiz Irber (Dec 03 2019 at 18:05, on Zulip):

https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/474

Luiz Irber (Dec 03 2019 at 18:06, on Zulip):

Just created it =]

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:06, on Zulip):

cool, thanks

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:06, on Zulip):

unsure if I have merge rights, need to wait for the checks to finish

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:10, on Zulip):

I don't have merge rights

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:10, on Zulip):

cc @nikomatsakis can you merge https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/474, portuguese survey link was wrong

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 18:12, on Zulip):

Reddit reports that the French version is closed as well

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:37, on Zulip):

all the translations surveys should be open since a while, some may not have been when the post was published

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:38, on Zulip):

right now from the links we posted the only wrong is portuguese, we need to merge https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/474

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 18:38, on Zulip):

I don't have rights to do so, if someone can merge would be great, otherwise let's wait for @nikomatsakis

XAMPPRocky (Dec 03 2019 at 18:39, on Zulip):

Somehow everyone with merge rights is not online right now.

XAMPPRocky (Dec 03 2019 at 18:39, on Zulip):

/me internally screaming

XAMPPRocky (Dec 03 2019 at 18:39, on Zulip):

There's also https://github.com/rust-lang/blog.rust-lang.org/pull/475 that should be merged as well.

nikomatsakis (Dec 03 2019 at 18:57, on Zulip):

I merged both

nikomatsakis (Dec 03 2019 at 19:00, on Zulip):

Another question: @Santiago Pastorino did we want to remove edit privileges from the "main survey" or anything like that? (for translators)

Luiz Irber (Dec 03 2019 at 19:03, on Zulip):

speaking as a translator, I had access to a copy of the main survey (and so no access to real responses)

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 19:05, on Zulip):

Another question: Santiago Pastorino did we want to remove edit privileges from the "main survey" or anything like that? (for translators)

translators have access to a copy

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 19:05, on Zulip):

we can remove the copy to avoid confusion I think

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 19:34, on Zulip):

it says Goggle Forms => Google Forms

XAMPPRocky (Dec 03 2019 at 19:37, on Zulip):

Did you fix the typo? I'm trying to get onto the form, but it freezes my browser.

XAMPPRocky (Dec 03 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

Screenshot-2019-12-03-at-20.37.57.png

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 03 2019 at 19:42, on Zulip):

I didn't

Jasun Carr (Dec 03 2019 at 19:56, on Zulip):

Fixed typo - and changed all languages to checkboxes (instead of radio) to eliminate the issue of not being able to unselect/move forward.
