Last year there was a feedback that we should include Blockchain in the industries you work in, because that's where lots of Rustaceans nowadays work in. We should probably add it there this year as well.

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 23:55, on Zulip):

Agreed, seems good (cc @Jasun Carr )

Jasun Carr (Nov 21 2019 at 23:59, on Zulip):

Done

Xidorn Quan (Nov 22 2019 at 13:17, on Zulip):

It seems that the survey this year has 50% more questions than last year... Is the 10~15 min estimated time still accurate? If the time scales linearly with number of questions, it should probably take 15~20 min this year. Have we done some timing and see how long it takes for people to complete it?

pnkfelix (Nov 22 2019 at 14:22, on Zulip):

I think 15-20 min is a better estimate to write, personally. (but this also may be a sign that we need to find ways to put bounds on survey size)

Charles Lew (Nov 22 2019 at 14:23, on Zulip):

In Question 30. Do you want to put CLion aside with IntelliJ or make it a separate option?

really? that surprises me, but it may well be true!

Jasun Carr (Nov 22 2019 at 18:40, on Zulip):

Accidentally posted in reply on wrong thread, so copied here as well:

I'll do a comparison between last/this year (think the number of questions may not have increased that much, but we added some questions with a LOT of choices)

So, you're right - the overall # of questions did increase from 85 -> 130 (a 52.9% increase). However, because of branching and filtering within the survey, the Maximum # of questions anyone will have to answer only 71 (last year it was 67). So, the survey itself has gotten larger - but the experience should be equivalent.
(And, if anyone is interested, the minimum # of questions someone would have to answer also increased slightly from 31 to 39).

nikomatsakis (Nov 22 2019 at 20:16, on Zulip):

That's pretty interesting

nikomatsakis (Nov 22 2019 at 20:16, on Zulip):

Thanks @Jasun Carr

Xidorn Quan (Nov 22 2019 at 22:42, on Zulip):

I think putting CLion in the IntelliJ option makes sense, something like "IntelliJ (incl. CLion etc.)" would probably work.

Xidorn Quan (Nov 23 2019 at 08:45, on Zulip):

There is a feedback about the question "If you use a nightly version, do you automatically update or pin a version for use?" that this should probably be using checkbox, because people may pin a version for some products (e.g. for production), and let it automatically update for others. Not sure whether there is anything better we can do with this question.

apiraino (Nov 24 2019 at 17:27, on Zulip):

hello everyone, I'm helping with the Italian translation of the survey. I've completed a first version, I'll have another person review it soon.

apiraino (Nov 24 2019 at 17:28, on Zulip):

I know I'm late to the party but I have noted down some minor feedbacks on the survey itself. It's perfectly ok simply ignore the following small bullet list :-)

apiraino (Nov 24 2019 at 17:28, on Zulip):

So, one actionable item:

I dont have access to that wiki so I'll paste a diff here :-)

(sry for the wall of text)

Jasun Carr (Nov 25 2019 at 15:54, on Zulip):

@apiraino Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately some of the translation teams (volunteers) have already started in on the translations, and I'm reticent to make changes to the survey (for fear of having different versions in different languages). But yes - if someone who has access to the wiki can post that link it would be great. (I'll admit, I didn't really focus on anything other than the survey questions, and missed that in the closing section.)

We can make that change. I've updated the master.

I've changed the Italian survey accordingly
