Welcome to #t-compiler/wg-learning.

@davidtwco :+1:

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 12:51, on Zulip):

going to fix the PR urls now

davidtwco (Apr 24 2019 at 12:52, on Zulip):

I've also made an alias, feel free to add people to it.

davidtwco (Apr 24 2019 at 12:52, on Zulip):

I also only added you to this stream, so others will need to subscribe themselves.

Amanjeev Sethi (Apr 24 2019 at 13:06, on Zulip):

yay! subscribed!

nikomatsakis (Apr 24 2019 at 13:20, on Zulip):

alias to what?

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 13:25, on Zulip):

you meant the people that belong to the group?

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 13:26, on Zulip):

ahh the part that's called user groups, I guess is what you meant

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 13:31, on Zulip):

fixed the url on the pr

Nick Lawrence (Apr 24 2019 at 13:51, on Zulip):

subbed!

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 15:24, on Zulip):

@WG-learning I've added all the people that I could find were interested

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 15:25, on Zulip):

if somebody is not included and want to be in the group let me know and I will add you

Iñaki Garay (Apr 24 2019 at 15:29, on Zulip):

'in the group' == subscribed to stream? Is there a place where non-admins can see all group members?

Amanjeev Sethi (Apr 24 2019 at 15:38, on Zulip):

I think @Santiago Pastorino means in the group @WG-learning which I see you are a part of.

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 15:39, on Zulip):

@Iñaki Garay go to Settings -> Organization -> User groups

Iñaki Garay (Apr 24 2019 at 15:40, on Zulip):

Ahh, can't do that from the mobile app I think. Thanks

Iñaki Garay (Apr 24 2019 at 16:04, on Zulip):

May I suggest adding the wg-learning stream to the list of default streams? if making that decision is not part of the 'create wg stream' process perhaps I can add it to the wg template ?

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 16:05, on Zulip):

@davidtwco :point_up:

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 16:07, on Zulip):

@Iñaki Garay I guess you can provide a PR with something that says, consider adding the stream to the default streams list

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 24 2019 at 16:09, on Zulip):

at least as a way to start the discussion about it

davidtwco (Apr 24 2019 at 16:10, on Zulip):

I’ll add this to the defaults when I get to a computer. We can open an issue on the compiler-team repo to discuss if it makes sense more generally.

davidtwco (Apr 24 2019 at 16:23, on Zulip):

Added.

Amanjeev Sethi (Apr 25 2019 at 15:00, on Zulip):

its merged! https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/pull/70#event-2298725207

Santiago Pastorino (Apr 25 2019 at 15:09, on Zulip):

we are officially a Working Group

Amanjeev Sethi (Apr 25 2019 at 15:53, on Zulip):

happy to be a part of it and help in any way I can

Iñaki Garay (Apr 26 2019 at 19:15, on Zulip):

I added @Juan Bono who is one of LambdaClass' employees willing to work on the documentation effort.

Julien (May 02 2019 at 00:23, on Zulip):

Hi y’all, not sure if this is the right place for this but I randomly saw @Amanjeev Sethi ‘s tweet about this WG and I’m interested in helping out so I followed many links and landed here! Hello 👋

Amanjeev Sethi (May 02 2019 at 10:51, on Zulip):

Hi @Julien ! Welcome!

Amanjeev Sethi (May 02 2019 at 11:15, on Zulip):

@Julien Long story short- As the immediate first step and task - we are looking at section 1.1 in the document https://paper.dropbox.com/doc/Learning-Working-Group-Ideas--AcXXIDH0RJXlntryDv73NUi0Ag-2R49k1GWZFojHIQ5x1fuB

And choosing a video from the list, watch it, ask questions and write a document about it that should go on https://github.com/rust-lang/rustc-guide.

Others in @WG-learning please correct me if I am mistaken.

Santiago Pastorino (May 02 2019 at 16:00, on Zulip):

@Julien exactly what @Amanjeev Sethi have said, and also I can add yo to the @WG-learning group if you want to be notified of things, please let me know

mark-i-m (May 06 2019 at 17:15, on Zulip):

Hello... I didn't know this existed at all since I didn't have emails setup for Zulip (in fact, I forgot I had ever logged into Zulip in the first place).

mark-i-m (May 06 2019 at 17:16, on Zulip):

My time is a bit tight recently, but I will try to join in if possible...

Santiago Pastorino (May 06 2019 at 17:17, on Zulip):

@mark-i-m great :)

Amanjeev Sethi (May 06 2019 at 17:18, on Zulip):

hey @mark-i-m , zulip has been confusing for me. without or without email notifications. lol

glad to see you here.

Manoj K (Oct 30 2019 at 17:24, on Zulip):

Hello.. I landed here after reading @Amanjeev Sethi 's post about this learning group. I don't have experience with compiler internals but would like to learn more and help out wherever I can :) And not sure this is the first time me using Zulip so not sure if this the correct channel :)

ksqsf (Oct 30 2019 at 17:39, on Zulip):

Me too! I've used Rust for some time and had some experience in compiler construction (just some toys). I'd definitely like to get into the internals, learn, and contribute. That's why I want to join this learning group.

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:47, on Zulip):

hi @hindenbug @ksqsf, welcome

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:48, on Zulip):

I can add you both to the @WG-learning Zulip group so you're notified when we mention it

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:48, on Zulip):

we do when we run meetings

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:48, on Zulip):

for now what we are doing is working on the ty chapter

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:49, on Zulip):

I think you might find more information at #t-compiler/wg-learning > Representing types in rustc lecture discussion

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:50, on Zulip):

but feel free to look around on all the different topics on the #t-compiler/wg-learning stream

ksqsf (Oct 30 2019 at 17:51, on Zulip):

sure! is there a list of the previous lectures...? or are they just the "topics" of the wg-learning stream?

Santiago Pastorino (Oct 30 2019 at 17:58, on Zulip):

this project track pretty well the current state of things

ksqsf (Oct 30 2019 at 17:59, on Zulip):

thanks

hindenbug (Oct 30 2019 at 18:40, on Zulip):

Thanks @Santiago Pastorino

Amanjeev Sethi (Oct 31 2019 at 10:37, on Zulip):
