Topic: where are docs

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:36, on Zulip):

Where do I check out the docs now?

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:36, on Zulip):

https://github.com/rust-lang/measureme/tree/master/summarize ?

Wesley Wiser (May 07 2019 at 19:37, on Zulip):

Currently just https://github.com/rust-lang/measureme/blob/master/summarize/Readme.md

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

Oh, nice, I can use this with nightly builds

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

(duh)

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

I just spent a while building a master build :P

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

well, I do plan to add my own instrumentation eventually so...

Wesley Wiser (May 07 2019 at 19:38, on Zulip):

Yeah as of ~1 month ago nightly should work

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

I guess the main thing that the summarize tool doesn't do is to give you the "cumulative" time, not just self time

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:25, on Zulip):

anyway this is working well for me

Wesley Wiser (May 07 2019 at 20:27, on Zulip):

By cumulative, you mean self-time + descendents' self time?

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:29, on Zulip):

yes; it's a kind of sketchy measurement

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:29, on Zulip):

(complex to interpret)

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:30, on Zulip):

perf-focus could produce these kind of interesting graphs that were...sort of helpful in visualizing this sort of thing

nikomatsakis (May 07 2019 at 20:31, on Zulip):

I might try to mess around with the output here..

Wesley Wiser (May 07 2019 at 20:31, on Zulip):

Seems simple to implement though. I'll file an issue

mw (May 08 2019 at 07:58, on Zulip):

I often used cumulative time in the KCacheGrind GUI in order to find out where to drill further into. It's a good for getting the big picture of where time is spent.
