nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:01, on Zulip):

Hey @T-compiler/WG-meta -- anybody around to meet?

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:01, on Zulip):

It might just be me

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:01, on Zulip):

@pnkfelix, are you on the above user group btw?

davidtwco (Jan 09 2020 at 19:02, on Zulip):

I’m around

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:02, on Zulip):

Cool :)

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:03, on Zulip):

So I was thinking that a good next goal would be to create the "reducer and bisector" ICE-breaker

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:03, on Zulip):

I think at this point the main blocker, which was @Santiago Pastorino's work on cargo bisect-rustc, is done

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:03, on Zulip):

maybe it's a good idea to setup a checklist

pnkfelix (Jan 09 2020 at 19:03, on Zulip):

(I believe I am not on WG-meta, not yet at least. Probably should join.)

pnkfelix (Jan 09 2020 at 19:04, on Zulip):

tmandry was asking recently about reduction tools

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:06, on Zulip):

OK

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:06, on Zulip):

I'm looking over the list of issues

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:07, on Zulip):

I think that https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/174 -- which was for the LLVM group

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:07, on Zulip):

can presumably be closed

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:07, on Zulip):

but it provides a good "checklist" starting point I guess

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:08, on Zulip):

we need to update our compiler-team page to drive attention to these groups as a way to contribute

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:08, on Zulip):

this work item never got done I guess

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:10, on Zulip):

What should we call it? "Cleanup ICE-breakers"? "Bisect-and-reduce ICE-breakers"?

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:10, on Zulip):

Any thoughts?

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:11, on Zulip):

I can't come up with something obvious

davidtwco (Jan 09 2020 at 19:11, on Zulip):

Nothing springs to mind here.

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:12, on Zulip):

I know it's a tough one

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:12, on Zulip):

there has to be some kind of funny name :P

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:16, on Zulip):

maybe just "cleanup crew"

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:17, on Zulip):

it has that "team feeling"

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:18, on Zulip):

OK I created https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/207

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:18, on Zulip):

which has a checklist

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 19:18, on Zulip):

I'm going to use the next ten minut to work on that first item

nikomatsakis (Jan 09 2020 at 21:07, on Zulip):

First draft of a guide: https://github.com/rust-lang/rustc-guide/pull/556

nikomatsakis (Jan 14 2020 at 10:44, on Zulip):

Updated https://github.com/rust-lang/rustc-guide/pull/556 with a bit more

davidtwco (Jan 14 2020 at 10:54, on Zulip):

It all reads well to me.

nikomatsakis (Jan 14 2020 at 13:31, on Zulip):

Hey @DPC -- it'd be good to discuss at some point the release team triage wg and the compiler triage efforts and if/how it makes sense to "join forces". One thing we're thinking of doing is creating a "cleanup crew" that is aimed at minimizing and bisecting bugs, which seems pretty related (see above  for more notes)
