Topic: meeting 2019.11.21

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 18:55, on Zulip):

 Hi @T-compiler/WG-meta -- I can't make meeting today, have a last minute thing -- I have nothing major to report except that I think growing the set of ICE-breakers to include reducers and diagnostics would be great.

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 18:55, on Zulip):

I see there are some messages I've not read over in the "reducer ICE-breakers" topic, and of course @pnkfelix wrote that monster blog post :)

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 18:55, on Zulip):

hi @nikomatsakis

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 18:56, on Zulip):

yeah, growing the set of ICE-breakers would be great and in particular going after reducers and diagnostics

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 18:56, on Zulip):

agreed

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 18:56, on Zulip):

do you think there's something I can do on this regard?

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 18:56, on Zulip):

anyway, let's skip this meeting :+1:

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 18:57, on Zulip):

yeah, growing the set of ICE-breakers would be great and in particular going after reducers and diagnostics

people keep approaching me and indicating a desire to get involved etc, and I think this is a model that would help...

centril (Nov 21 2019 at 18:57, on Zulip):

I'm going to pitch "ICE-shrinkers" as a name for that group :D

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 18:59, on Zulip):

oh, man, took me a while to get that :)

nikomatsakis (Nov 21 2019 at 18:59, on Zulip):

I keep thinking of global warming

centril (Nov 21 2019 at 18:59, on Zulip):

there's a duality to the joke ;)

lqd (Nov 21 2019 at 19:50, on Zulip):

ICE-shavers ! ICE-melters !

(though IMO shrinking is more established when talking about reducing data, while minimizing/reducing is the more established term when talking about reducing code)

Santiago Pastorino (Nov 21 2019 at 20:16, on Zulip):

I like ICE-melters :joy:

pnkfelix (Dec 05 2019 at 10:34, on Zulip):

and I in turn very much like ICE-shavers
