Hey @pnkfelix @Igor Matuszewski -- @matklad and I were saying maybe we should try to have a brainstorm call to help sketch out in more concrete terms what the "RLS 2.0 deliverables" ought to be
Do y'all happen to be available right now for a video call?
let me check if i can get a room; yep i did
@pnkfelix did you see the link above? (also @Igor Matuszewski)
weird I thought I had previously used zoom but its acting like I haven't
asking me to install the app
hmm weird ok
usually for me clicking on the link makes it all work out
oh maybe it only works from Chrome for me,let me see
@Igor Matuszewski actually, we probably can do the writepu together?
shared docs are great...
@matklad is Paper doc good for you?
I’ll create one later today since I have to go for a bit at this moment
btw I created a "directory" in paper for the WG RLS 2.0 stuff
feel free to organize it however
and/or request permissions as needed; I can invite y'all to the Rust org
Hey all, so I had a thought after our meeting. First off, if I may summarize what I walked away with, it was basically this:
My thought was that (a) I think this notion of a subset is pretty important in terms of public perception and (b) we should try to find examples of projects that fit into the subset at various points. e.g., if we can say "projects like X and Y", that not only makes things more real, it gives us great test cases to work with.
cc @Jonathan Turner, who has advocated for this "subset of Rust code" idea to me in the past
iirc, I think we were talking about ratcheting up from a subset that we supported that would work perfectly
happy to chat about possible subsets
@WG-rls2.0 I tried to do a write-up on what we discussed which sorta blended into a roadmap sort of thing? I'd appreciate your input at https://paper.dropbox.com/doc/Feb-25th-2019-Roadmap-call-write-up--AYXGaB__NOT5fEJtQ1sNffhqAQ-T9Qs1yStjtsCP0zeTb1Jb
In particular @nikomatsakis do we plan on publishing that as part of compiler working group meeting notes or something similar?
It wouldn't be terrible to just cut-and-paste that text, perhaps after you get whatever feedback you want, into the NOTES.md for WG-rls-2.0 on the github repo
Oh hey neat @Igor Matuszewski missed this -- I'll take a look
@nikomatsakis this is now in the NOTES.md in the repository
