Stream: t-compiler/rust-analyzer

Topic: Rename stream to t-compiler/rust-analyzer?

Joshua Nelson (Mar 31 2021 at 19:00, on Zulip):

RLS 2.0 is confusing since they're completely different codebases.

Jonas Schievink [he/him] (Mar 31 2021 at 19:29, on Zulip):

is there an RLS 2.0 code base?

Joshua Nelson (Mar 31 2021 at 19:29, on Zulip):

Not that I'm aware of

Joshua Nelson (Mar 31 2021 at 19:30, on Zulip):

I meant to say RA is completely different from RLS

Florian Diebold (Mar 31 2021 at 19:31, on Zulip):

I think the idea with the title originally was that RA would become either a prototype or the basis for what eventually becomes RLS 2.0. By now, I'm not sure that's still likely though

Florian Diebold (Mar 31 2021 at 19:32, on Zulip):

IMO it would make sense to rename the stream

Joshua Nelson (Mar 31 2021 at 19:32, on Zulip):

In general I just think it makes more sense to call it by the project name

Florian Diebold (Mar 31 2021 at 19:32, on Zulip):

if only for newly joining people who are wondering where to ask questions about it

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 09:29, on Zulip):

The name of the stream is actually just equal to the name of the working group. Sadly, organizationally we are pretty far from the t-compiler, so we don't make a heavy use of WG infrastructure.

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 09:32, on Zulip):

I am of two minds here. On the one hand, de-facto rust-analyzer is a separate thing, and rls-2.0 name is confusing. On the other hand, I hate the fact that rust-analyzer is still a thing in itself :( In this sense, rls-2.0 is something we should aspire to organizationally

Laurențiu (Apr 01 2021 at 09:46, on Zulip):

Is there anything we can do to bring rust-analyzer closer to RLS, organizationally?

Florian Diebold (Apr 01 2021 at 10:12, on Zulip):

IMO the rls-2.0 name doesn't really help aspire much, and rls-2.0 doesn't seem to imply our actual intended end state much more than rust-analyzer anyway

Florian Diebold (Apr 01 2021 at 10:13, on Zulip):

except by not being rust-analyzer, I guess

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 10:15, on Zulip):

Yeah, that's also true.

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 10:15, on Zulip):

Yeah, we probably should rename at least the stream

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 10:16, on Zulip):

Although I can't do that, apparently :(

Florian Diebold (Apr 01 2021 at 10:16, on Zulip):

probably needs an admin

matklad (Apr 01 2021 at 10:17, on Zulip):

re @Laurențiu question, I believe that org structure repeats the code code structure, so we should:

Laurențiu (Apr 01 2021 at 11:14, on Zulip):

Yeah, step 2 didn't turn out too well with vscode-rust.

@simulacrum could you or someone else rename the stream to t-compiler/rust-analyzer?

Joshua Nelson (Apr 05 2021 at 17:00, on Zulip):

thank you!
