Topic: rustup release workflow

Florian Diebold (Jan 13 2021 at 15:16, on Zulip):

Filed https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/80984 to update the version shipped with rustup, we had one from September

I wonder whether it would be possible to automate that, to always upgrade to the tip of the release branch?

Jonas Schievink [he/him] (Jan 13 2021 at 15:17, on Zulip):

should be possible from GHA, minus the final @bors r+

Something like https://github.com/marketplace/actions/create-pull-request

Florian Diebold (Jan 13 2021 at 15:22, on Zulip):

I was thinking of doing it just-in-time, without having to make commits everytime, but maybe that would be enough

Laurențiu (Jan 13 2021 at 15:25, on Zulip):

You mean pulling the latest rust-analyzer/rust-analyzer release when building the rustup packages? I don't think that fits well with how the other submodules are updated, and it seems a bit finicky.

Florian Diebold (Jan 13 2021 at 15:27, on Zulip):

I know it doesn't fit well for the other submodules, but RA is different... it's completely independent, and there's already a release branch for the purpose of marking the to-be-released version
