Topic: How to check llvm version of rustc

Elichai Turkel (May 17 2020 at 08:01, on Zulip):

Hi,
I want to make more use of linker-plugin-LTO on my system, and for that I need to make sure my llvm versions match between clang and rustc.
what's the easiest way to check what llvm version a specific rustc was built with?

FYI this table is quite out of date: https://doc.rust-lang.org/rustc/linker-plugin-lto.html

EDIT: Rereading the post I linked they literally say rustc -vV :)
How bad is it to compile rustc locally against a higher llvm version?

We're on LLVM 9 at the moment.
