Topic: Lecture Series Suggesion: Monomorphisation

Edd Barrett (Dec 05 2019 at 11:51, on Zulip):

Hi everyone,

I've found the compiler lecture series videos very useful, so first of all, thank you for making them :)

If I may, I have a suggestion for a lecture topic: monomorphisation ( instances, substs and why monomorphisation occurs in the codegen)

Thanks!

hey @Edd Barrett as part of the Learning WG (#t-compiler/wg-learning) we are exactly aiming for a lecture about that

our next steps are ...

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:54, on Zulip):
Next steps:

    Start writing an Overview chapter
Organize a lecture about codegen mir -> llvm IR (@nagisa, maybe?)
Organize a lecture about LLVM (@Alex Crichton, maybe?)
Organize a lecture about monomorphization/type memory layout (@oli, maybe?)
Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:55, on Zulip):

@nagisa actually wrote a small document with thoughts about a possible lecture

Excellent! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

Is there somewhere where these things are announced?

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:56, on Zulip):

that has happened on #t-compiler/wg-learning > lecture on LLVM/codegen, feel free to stop there and write suggestions

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:56, on Zulip):

@Edd Barrett we are discussing this kind of things in general in #t-compiler/wg-learning

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:56, on Zulip):

we had a planning meeting but all this stuff happens in that stream

Santiago Pastorino (Dec 05 2019 at 14:57, on Zulip):

I was building a little text for our check-in at #t-compiler > weekly meeting 2019-12-05 #54818
