Topic: libLLVM dylib on Windows

Denys Zariaiev (May 07 2019 at 14:21, on Zulip):

Can somebody please explain why does dynamically linked LLVM not supported on Windows?
While I was trying to adjust a linker for nvptx64 target to unblock #59752, I came across a comment at src/bootstrap/dist.rs#L2043.

Does it mean, it's impossible to build a dynamic libLLVM on Windows, or it just can't be used by lld and other tools?

Zoxc (May 07 2019 at 14:26, on Zulip):

I don't think libLLVM counts as tools, not sure what libLLVM is either

I think the yet wording implies Windows support just isn't implemented

simulacrum (May 07 2019 at 17:22, on Zulip):

I think we had troubles with dynamically linking LLVM on windows but I don't recall exactly what they were. If someone could make LLVM get dynamically linked on windows I think that would be good (more uniform cross-platform).

Makes sense, sorry I should have read it more carefully - overlooked the wording

@simulacrum I see, thanks for the clarification
