Topic: establishing a sprint cadence

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:08, on Zulip):

I've become quite intrigued by the idea of doing more organized sprints. Roughly speaking, the idea would be this:

The idea of the longer meeting is it includes time to review how things went and to decide if we want to continue pursuing the same set of goals, or something different.

We might consider doing the sprint meetings over Zoom, although I think I've found that Zulip can be surprisingly high bandwidth, and I know it's better for some folks (e.g., due to language barriers, bandwidth constraints, or other things). So I'd be game to stick with Zulip.

I feel like we already had a sort of informal "first sprint" meeting some weeks ago, can't recall the precise date. We could kind of "retcon" a sprint from that starting point. Or we could use this coming Monday to do a first sprint meeting.

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:08, on Zulip):

I think that's a great idea.

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:09, on Zulip):

informal agile methodology could definitely help us be more efficient, I reckon. :-)

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:13, on Zulip):

What do we think about using next Monday as first sprint meeting?

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:13, on Zulip):

I lean that way for a few reasons:

Sunjay Varma (Mar 14 2019 at 16:14, on Zulip):

I like that it's a long sprint. That gives me the ability to get extremely busy (because I can only do this in my spare time) and then catch up again

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:15, on Zulip):

@nikomatsakis during the normal WG-traits meeting slot? sounds fine with me. I'll try to make it then despite the awkward time for me.

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:15, on Zulip):

Yes, though I would be ok with moving it 1 hr later on account of DST

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:15, on Zulip):

I at least am available

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:16, on Zulip):

Also, I would want to go for 1hr probably (not the 30min presently in the calendar)

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:16, on Zulip):

Hah. DST kind of made it better for me, but if others prefer 1hr later, then fine...

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:16, on Zulip):

yeah, we'd need 1hr I think.

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:17, on Zulip):

I'm stepping out, but I'll add a special event to the calendar when I get back

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:17, on Zulip):

People can vote in my absence :) Do it at the normal time? (Add a :+1: here)

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 16:17, on Zulip):

Or one hour later (Add a :+1: here)

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:20, on Zulip):

Wait, is that your way of saying you don't care, @Sunjay Varma? Hehe.

Sunjay Varma (Mar 14 2019 at 16:21, on Zulip):

Heh. Either works for me, so I thought I'd indicate that

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 14 2019 at 16:25, on Zulip):

fair

nikomatsakis (Mar 14 2019 at 17:41, on Zulip):

@scalexm did you want to vote for a time? :)

scalexm (Mar 14 2019 at 17:47, on Zulip):

Just voted

centril (Mar 14 2019 at 17:57, on Zulip):

@nikomatsakis I like using video conferencing; much preferable to text imo, and it gets recorded so thats better

scalexm (Mar 14 2019 at 18:13, on Zulip):

@centril often on Monday evenings I cannot do video, so I might be unable to attend in case we do

centril (Mar 14 2019 at 18:13, on Zulip):

bummer

Alexander Regueiro (Mar 15 2019 at 18:15, on Zulip):

how is Chalk integration coming along btw? can we play with it in nightly soon? :-)

Sunjay Varma (Mar 15 2019 at 22:46, on Zulip):

nikomatsakis (Mar 18 2019 at 17:07, on Zulip):

Argh, I never added an event for this =)

nikomatsakis (Mar 18 2019 at 17:08, on Zulip):

There didn't seem to be a clear consensus emerging around the timing of the meeting

nikomatsakis (Mar 18 2019 at 17:12, on Zulip):

So I guess we'll just stick to what the calendar says, but run longer as needed

nikomatsakis (Mar 18 2019 at 17:13, on Zulip):

(Sorry @scalexm)
