Topic: tidy: everything is a binary file

davidtwco (Jan 29 2019 at 14:35, on Zulip):

Has anyone else had the issue that running tidy locally errors and lists almost every file as being a "binary checked into source"?

lqd (Jan 29 2019 at 14:36, on Zulip):

to me: only one text file I had copied, not every file though

davidtwco (Jan 29 2019 at 14:37, on Zulip):

I'm not sure what it is, I haven't done anything strange to the permissions and it seems to happen with fresh clones.

lqd (Jan 29 2019 at 14:38, on Zulip):

are these files somehow +x ? I think that's what tidy is checking

davidtwco (Jan 29 2019 at 14:38, on Zulip):

Yeah, looks like they have it set on the group.

lqd (Jan 29 2019 at 14:38, on Zulip):

how they happened to have this is more of a mystery

davidtwco (Jan 29 2019 at 15:12, on Zulip):

For anyone else that has this issue, these commands ended up getting tidy to pass for me:

Remove group executable permission from any files with group executable permission

find . -type f -regextype posix-extended -regex '.*/(Dockerfile|Makefile|patch-toolchain|compiletest-ignore-dir|config|README|non-utf8|qemu-bare-bones-rcS|vexpress_config|.*\.(inc|bin|s|svg|css|md|rs|toml|gitignore|1|stderr|stdout|fixed|txt|gitattributes|c|bat|woff|editorconfig|config|patch|json|foo|template|cpp|lock|rc|rs~rust-lang_master))' -perm '-g=x' -exec chmod g-x {} \;

Add user read/write permission to any files with no user permissions

find . -type f -regextype posix-extended -regex '.*/(Dockerfile|Makefile|patch-toolchain|compiletest-ignore-dir|config|README|non-utf8|qemu-bare-bones-rcS|vexpress_config|.*\.(inc|bin|s|svg|css|md|rs|toml|gitignore|1|stderr|stdout|fixed|txt|gitattributes|c|bat|woff|editorconfig|config|patch|json|foo|template|cpp|lock))' -user $(whoami) -perm '-000' -exec chmod u+rw {} \;
