Topic: error: couldn't load codegen backend

Armando Venturi (Jun 11 2019 at 08:02, on Zulip):

Hi everyone, I'm trying to run Rust on a Solaris virtual machine but as soon as I go with "cargo run" it shows me the following error. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

error: process didn't exit successfully: rustc -vV (exit code: 1)
--- stdout
rustc 1.35.0
binary: rustc
commit-hash: unknown
commit-date: unknown
host: x86_64-sun-solaris
release: 1.35.0

--- stderr
error: couldn't load codegen backend "/opt/local/lib/rustlib/x86_64-sun-solaris/codegen-backends/librustc_codegen_llvm-llvm.so": "ld.so.1: rustc: fatal: libintl.so.8: open failed: No such file or directory"

pnkfelix (Jun 11 2019 at 08:51, on Zulip):

does that indicate that you need to install libintl8 ?

pnkfelix (Jun 11 2019 at 08:52, on Zulip):

which I guess comes from GNU gettext ?

pnkfelix (Jun 11 2019 at 08:53, on Zulip):

yeah the more I read, it seems that an error message like that may indicate that you need to install a package named gettext

Armando Venturi (Jun 12 2019 at 07:34, on Zulip):

I solved this, I just needed to move the "libintl.so.8" file to the lib directory. Thank you anyway!
