Topic: MaybeUninit and deprecating mem::uninitialized

centril (May 02 2019 at 20:10, on Zulip):

Hey @RalfJ -- we (lang team) were thinking that it could be good with a blog post about MaybeUninit<T> and the deprecation of mem::uninitialized; like why we are deprecating and what the better safer pattern is. We thought you might be a good person to write such a post. cc @nikomatsakis

nikomatsakis (May 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

lol, now I see what you meant @centril about both of us posting in different places :)

nikomatsakis (May 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

feel free to answer exactly once @RalfJ :)

centril (May 02 2019 at 20:24, on Zulip):

:D

nikomatsakis (May 02 2019 at 20:25, on Zulip):

if you like me more, you'll do it in #t-lang/wg-unsafe-code-guidelines. If you like @centril more...

RalfJ (May 05 2019 at 13:24, on Zulip):

read this after replying there. I have t-compiler muted, too much stuff going on here^^

eddyb (May 05 2019 at 13:27, on Zulip):

does zulip not have "only notify for topics I am in"?

detrumi (May 05 2019 at 13:39, on Zulip):

No, but you can mute all new topics you're not interested in instead

eddyb (May 05 2019 at 13:40, on Zulip):

yeah that's not realistic by far

eddyb (May 05 2019 at 13:40, on Zulip):

we have, like, hundreds of topics, maybe even thousands

eddyb (May 05 2019 at 13:40, on Zulip):

and the "unread" state is kind of useless anyway

eddyb (May 05 2019 at 13:41, on Zulip):

I need to build a dashboard to triage past conversations, which should be more possible with Zulip than Discord, but atm I'm assuming if something was said and I wasn't mentioned, it doesn't matter

detrumi (May 05 2019 at 15:04, on Zulip):

One thing you can do is star messages you need to get back to, that also helps a bit
