@davidtwco how do you move several messages to a new topic?
If you edit the topic of your message then you get an option to move just that message, move that and any of your subsequent messages or move that and all subsequent messages.
(you need to actually change the topic, not just show the field for that)
(once you start typing the new topic, the dropdown shows up)
that's... not super intuitive; a drag and drop would have been nice
What, drag-and-drop with a subsequent pop-up to indicate whether its just the message or the message and all following messages or all messages before and after?
That or have a little checkbox so you can select multiple before dragging or support shift/ctrl click.
I don't know, I think once you know how to do it, its fine. And since changing the topic to an existing topic is a destructive act, I think its a double-plus good thing that it is not-intuitive
To drag to another topic, that topic needs to exist, which isn't always the case.
(in other words, renaming to an entirely new topic name would either need the existing interface, or it would require drag-and-drop to a new target area with a title like "rename to new topic")
There are absolutely ways to make it easier to do or more intuitive. Almost all of us have had to be told how to.
Is the non-intuitiveness arising because people don't realize that editing the topic is even an option (since when you hit the drop-down for your own message it just says "Edit"?) I see the phrase "Edit Topic" for other peoples' messages, but maybe that's a capability that I have but not others?
As I understand it, only admins can edit the topics of others (unless they never set one and it is
But there's no indication that editing the topic will let you move, even once you click it, you need to change the topic before that option is surfaced.
I'd do the shift/click thingy; it works intuitively like a file explorer
