Topic: stdarch stream?

Luca Barbato (Aug 25 2019 at 05:43, on Zulip):

Could be possible to have a stream dedicated to it? We (@gnzlbg and me) asked for it before but I guess the request got lost ^^;

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:26, on Zulip):

@centril in the mean time, the discussions keep going in private chats

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:26, on Zulip):

I really do believe the discussions should be in the open somewhere

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:27, on Zulip):

literally anywhere would be better than private chats

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:28, on Zulip):

any chance you could link to request? my brief attempt to search for "stdarch" didn't yield anything apart from this topic.

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 08:28, on Zulip):

Can we have t-libs/stdarch created?

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 08:28, on Zulip):

@pnkfelix it was back in the time it was stdsimd ^^;

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:30, on Zulip):

ah :D

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:31, on Zulip):

let me see if I can get in touch with someone in wg-meta to make sure I know the policy here

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:32, on Zulip):

I personally would have no problem with creating a stream at this point, but I just want to make sure there isn't some more structured protocol one is supposed to go through first.

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:34, on Zulip):

It would be helpful if they would document what the process is. We essentially just write that here, ping a couple of Zulip admins, which often say the same thing you do, and... then nothing happens.

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:35, on Zulip):

I don't know if one can pin stuff in Zulip, but maybe just saying that one should open an issue somewhere about this would be helpful.

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:36, on Zulip):

Yeah I understand, I basically just asked that question, about what the process is, if any

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:36, on Zulip):

Thanks

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:39, on Zulip):

Okay @davidtwco said he has tended to just do it whenever someone asks.

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:39, on Zulip):

So let me try to do the same for you

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:40, on Zulip):

@gnzlbg I'll PM you some Questions, okay?

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:40, on Zulip):

sure

gnzlbg (Sep 16 2019 at 08:40, on Zulip):

thank you again for replying so quickly

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:52, on Zulip):

Okay I think this is what you want: https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/208962-t-libs.2Fstdarch/topic/test.20linkifier/near/175794374

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:53, on Zulip):

I didn't know if this had its own working-group or not, analogous to t-libs/wg-allocators

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:54, on Zulip):

if it does, it might be good to rename it now to t-libs/wg-stdarch, before any content is added.

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 08:58, on Zulip):

I'll wait for @gnzlbg to tell before using it then :)

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 08:59, on Zulip):

@Luca Barbato well, do you know if there is a working group?

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 09:00, on Zulip):

That _I_ know there isn't, but...

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 09:01, on Zulip):

Actually... do you know what is the process of starting a working group? ^^;

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 09:01, on Zulip):

Ah, actually, lets not worry about this question! Apparently Zulip supports alpha-renaming

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 09:02, on Zulip):

Actually... do you know what is the process of starting a working group? ^^;

For this, I do think there is a documented process

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 09:04, on Zulip):

That's good :)

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 09:05, on Zulip):

Okay here the the documentation for forming a new working group

pnkfelix (Sep 16 2019 at 09:06, on Zulip):

but note that this is the documentation for T-compiler. Someone pointed out to me when I was asking the protocol for creating new streams that while the compiler team is working out its own protocols, it isn't necessary what the rest of the teams on the Rust project will adopt.

Luca Barbato (Sep 16 2019 at 12:59, on Zulip):

Thank you :)
