Hi all! I'm Chris, a new Rustacean with a background in Python/font formats/ the OpenType specification/font rasterization environments. I am an avid free software contributor and am looking for areas where I can pitch in on rustlang. I came across Santiago's post on bisecting Rust compiler regressions and joined the Cleanup Crew today. I also reached out to Katharina about the CLI wg which is an area of interest. Let me know how I can be of help! (Discord: csimpkins#9268)

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 17:52, on Zulip):

@Chris Simpkins unsure what are you interested in but if what interest you is the compiler I'd recommend checking out all the efforts and working groups around and try to talk to the leaders on how you could help in those efforts. Start looking here https://rust-lang.github.io/compiler-team/

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 17:52, on Zulip):

there you will find meetings, working group streams, names of people, etc that would give you a better idea on where to ask

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 17:53, on Zulip):

I'd be more than happy to invite you to #t-compiler/wg-learning :)

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 17:53, on Zulip):

there we are trying to make https://rust-lang.github.io/rustc-guide/ better

@Santiago Pastorino

I'd be more than happy to invite you to #t-compiler/wg-learning :)

Just read https://blog.rust-lang.org/inside-rust/2019/10/28/rustc-learning-working-group-introduction.html

...this group organically became an attractive place for beginners, who would benefit from documenting the compiler internals, while learning those parts of it at the same time. This benefits the entire compiler team by giving the documentation a perspective from the new contributors.

This sounds perfect. Count me in. Post an intro in #t-compiler/wg-learning?

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 18:05, on Zulip):

you can just join the next meeting

Sounds great. Where can I find details about how to join the meeting?

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 18:20, on Zulip):

the meeting will happen here in that stream

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 18:21, on Zulip):

we will create a stream

Santiago Pastorino (Feb 07 2020 at 18:21, on Zulip):

I can add you to the Zulip group if you want so you can be notified when the group is pinged

Chris Simpkins (Feb 07 2020 at 18:22, on Zulip):

Perfect. Ty!

this would be great if you don't mind. I turned on notifications for that stream
